Red’s Author Chit Chat with Kimberley O’Malley

Hi Kim. I feel like we are old friends so I hope its ok to call you Kim. Thank you for agreeing to chat with me today. You are my first author interview so please be patient. Most of my members know that I am the crazy redhead with nothing but the best of intentions. With that said I have no idea what I am doing. I am just making it up as I go along.

Let’s get started. I see that you currently write contemporary but may branch out to other genres. That sounds like a lot of fun to stretch your creative mind.

So I am going through the interview form I asked you to fill out and I am blown away. When did you figure out time travel? I see you started writing in 2092. Is this a secret or can you share your travel plans with us? I would love to be able to see what the future holds, like get the lotto numbers and…..

Oh, that was a typo. I feel so silly. OK, So you started writing in 2002. Although that’s not quiet as exciting as the time travel spin it is still very interesting.

1) Do you have a favorite book that you have written?

Kim: Coming Home is my first and favorite because I wrote in 2002 while waiting to adopt our daughter from Russia. It saved my sanity.
2) How about a favorite character from your books?

Kim: I really like all my characters. They’re like my children in a way. I love Katie from Taking Chances. You would too. She’s a feisty red head!

A feisty red head? You are a genius.

3) Do you have a specific way you choose the characters names?

Kim: I use names that I like. Ones I hear and think I’ll use that…

Ever consider using Red??? Just asking for a friend.

4) What is your favorite part of being a published author?

Kim: When a stranger tells me they’ve read my book. I write because I have stories to tell. The fact that someone not related to me chooses to read them? That blows my mind.

5) Where is the strangest place you had a book or character idea come to you?

Kim: Not so much a strange place as time. I’m wrapping up my first series this year and starting the next one in 2019. Then a friend mentioned wanting to write a cozy mystery…and I’m off!

6) I am sure you dont sit with a timer but if you had to guess how long does it take for you to write a book?

Kim: Not really sure.. 15 years for the first one. I’m getting better! I’ve released 4 in 13 months!

You are on a roll! Go Kim! Go Kim!

7) Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?

Kim: I read everything, even though they say not to. They are what they are. I try to learn from bad ones. I treasure the good ones!!

8) What do you do what you suffer from writer’s block?

Kim: Hasn’t happened thankfully. My issue is more about never having enough time.

Crap, I hope I didn’t jinx you. No writers block, no writers block. There that should work.

9) Which of your books do you wish more readers were aware of?

Kim: All. Of. Them!

GREAT ANSWER. I WILL GET TO ALL OF YOUR BUY LINKS SOON!

10) Did you have a mentor when you started?

Kim: Yes’m the lovely Jeni Burns, who is now my editor.

Shout out to Jeni Burns!!!

11) What advice would you give an aspiring author?

Kim: Write the book! Don’t give into self-doubt. Just write it. Then spend the money wisely. Use an editor. Have a cover designed.

12) What can we expect from you in the future?

Kim: Book 5 in my series will be released this fall

The Crowd goes wild!!!!

13) Tell us something fun. Anything that can make us smile or giggle. Life is too short, lets spread some smiles around.

Kim: I’m obsessed with Candy Crush!

Ok, just a thought, if you are looking for some more time to write delete Candy Crush from your phone. I am just looking out for your fans that don’t want to wait for your new books. xoxo

Anything else you would like to share?

Kim: Thank you for this fabulous opportunity!!!

Thanks Ms. Kimberley O’Malley for being a good sport and letting me test out my interviewing skills on you. Like I said the Redhead does things her way. I hope you and everyone reading learned a little bit about you and smiled a lot.

~Red xoxo
