Thrown back into the path of her first love, she finds hers is not the only heart fate has damaged.

Widower and software CEO, Cole McCall fills his days with computer codes and his free time working the family’s cattle ranch. Blaming himself for his wife’s death, he’s become hard and bitter. When his visiting former neighbor sets out to delete the firewall around his heart, he discovers there’s no protection against the Jordan virus. My first RT Book Convention Day 1 Blogger Synopsis and a special Text

Have you ever traveled to another country? Technically I have not, but after attending the 2018 RT Convention I feel like I have.

Thankfully the convention was close by and in a familiar place, Peppermill Resort, Reno, NV,  so I was not completely lost in this building like some attendees. However, I felt like everyone was speaking a foreign language. I would stand among a group and just listen, smile and nod. I must have looked silly. I had no idea what they were saying. First names of authors were spoken and everyone knew who they were but me. Still smiling but completely confused now.

Day 1 was a blogger synopsis for me. I expected a crowded room with chairs and the instructors sitting in front of the room. Nope. We were on the top floor boardroom. Like huge boardroom.

I was with 2 ladies I met by the elevators who were waiting to go in. Upon entering the suite I saw table rounds set up for our lunch later. We heard some voices up stairs. Yes, it is a 2 level boardroom. Walking up the spiral staircase we were greeted by Sara from Smart Bitches Trashy Books. Sara and Jay from Joyful Jay were our hosts. I wish I had taken pictures but I was like a kid in a candy shop. Eyes so big and mouth hanging open. Let’s see if I can paint the picture.

Picture it. Screens around the room for displaying the presentation. Overstuffed chairs so big my feet did not touch the floor. OK I am barely 5ft tall so that’s not unusual but you get the idea. The conference table was humongous and had outlets down the center. Each seat was set up with a bottle of Fiji water and glass. No Crystal Geyser for the fancy location. Desk blotters were also in front of each chair along with a little notebook and pen. I noticed the whole table was not set up for use. I guess the crowded part of the class was not part of the plan. This was actually very intimate. Mind blown again.

I was always taught to sit in the front of the class so that’s where I headed. I took out my simple black HP laptop that was specially purchased for me from hubby just for blogging. Took out my new business cards and walked around to drop on off on each blotter. Yeah, I was full of confidence. All smiles and ready to kick ass.

As each new blogger walked in we exchanged cards and they set up. I watched as each one pulled a Mac out of their bags and situated themselves. I glanced around the room and felt out of place. Oh well, my little laptop does the job. I am all set.

The ‘class’ started with the normal introductions and I did my best to type and remember everyone’s name and blog. I am horrible with names. Sarah and Jay introduced themselves and I was next. I sat in the front remember so I was the first of the attending bloggers.

“Hi, I run The Redheads Romance Readers book blog and 2 closed Facebook groups”. Man I was proud as I spoke. “I started in Dec 2017 and this is all very new to me but I love it”. Still smiling to myself the blogger to my left introduced herself and so on down the line.

Each of one gave a little bit of background on our blogs and I shrunk down in the chair a bit. I realized I was much smaller in this book world than I imagined. I was putting myself down. I did not feel up to everyone else’s level. I was Facebook only and that was different. I will add there was some deep personal things happening at home with my son so that added to my insecurity in that moment.

Sarah and Jay went on teaching and providing some amazing information, tips and talked to all of us the same way no matter how long we had been blogging. I did not ask many questions because I was not sure what to ask but I took notes. A bit later we had a catered lunch at those downstairs tables. My overwhelmed feeling just kept growing.

When lunch was finished we walked up that spiral staircase again and prepared for more from these two YODA Jedi Blogging Masters. So much data and information. I know it is in my brain somewhere and it will slowly leak out. Hopefully at the right time.

Unfortunately I was on overload towards the end. It was a long day and I am always very hard on myself. I expect to be the best at everything I do. I don’t think I am the best but I am always trying to reach for it.

I was ready to go home. This was so much bigger than me. So much bigger than I am ready for. It was only Tuesday 5/15 and I was supposed to stay until Monday 5/22. I texted my husband. I needed to hear from him before I jumped ship.

3:11 pm – I think I want to come home. Turning my phone off because I am finishing this class.

3:54 pm – I am very overwhelmed. I will call you when this class is done.

3:56 pm – This class is just way to big for me. It’s not who I am.

By this text I was trying my hardest not to start bawling. I get very emotional.

3:59 pm – I’ve just figured out I’m a billionth of a micro piece of a grain of salt in this universe

I was so overwhelmed. His response could be a line in any romance book out there.

4:10 pm – In the grander scheme of things so is everyone else. But in the story of my life you are the costar and the best supporting person in our boys lives.

Go ahead and read it again. I have reread it everyday since I came home.

There was a lot more to Day 1 but for me it kind of ended on that text. Some other cool things happened. We met to publishers, received some very exclusive Advanced copies of books. Had a cocktail party hosted by Harlequin publishers. But all of that became a blur because the man I love supports and loves me so much and made it known in that text. He gave me the courage to stick it out. Not going to lie, I still thought about leaving about 10 more times because of that overwhelming feeling but I didn’t.

I will give you some more highlights soon. For now it’s back to reading.

An author I found that stuck with me

Back in December 2017 I had just started my Facebook blog and group. I have always expected instant gratification and success. I didn’t feel like things were moving fast enough and I made a casual post about giving up.

img_6784It was in October 2017 when I ran across a new author who wrote about a part of his life that most people would never share with friends let alone strangers. He held nothing back except his real identity. It was very personal and without question he was going to be judged harshly. I understand and respect his decision to remain anonymous.

Zane Michaelson wrote about some of the hardest times in his life. Depression and the feeling of discontent which lead him down a road that had the potential to destroy everything and everyone around him. Choices were made and hence his story begins.

The series is called I Know What You’re  Doing. Prior to releasing the book as a whole, three novella were released under the titles, in order, She Loves to Watch Me Play, Our Dirty Little Secrets, and Till Death Us Do Part. After reading She Loves to Watch Me Play, I searched out this new author on Facebook. I find all of my book recommendations on Facebook. It’s why my blog was a Facebook only blog for 7 months. I “Liked” his page and began to “stalk” him. Zane Michaelson’s Facebook author page.

This may seem weird if you are not an avid Facebook author stalker. In the Facebook world “stalking” an author is a good thing. It means I follow them on all social media. Stay up to date with new releases. Follow the author to other pages and groups for “takeovers”. Generally be a super-fan and show my support. It allows me as a reader to converse with and get to know an author. The author is a real person not just words in a book. It adds to the reading experience especially with an author like Zane. He responds to his readers comments and is genuine. Even though he keeps his real identity a secret his personality shines through. I know about his sweet tooth and his crush and obsession with Kylie Minogue. Like I said, you get to know more about the person behind the words.

**Following an author and getting to have this ‘personal’ experience does not mean you have the right to harass or act inappropriately with an author. If you wouldn’t do it or say it to someone face to face then don’t do it on Facebook. OK, done preaching…. just be smart. Don’t ruin the experience for others who know how to act appropriate.

Back on the subject of  Zane Michaelson and why I am grateful he stuck with me. Yes, I love the personal story he shared with us, but this isn’t why I chose to write about him now.

Back in December 2017 I had just started my Facebook blog and group. I have always expected instant gratification and success. I didn’t feel like things were moving fast enough and I made a casual post about giving up.

Zane messaged me and offered to ‘takeover’ my group. This means he signs into my Facebook group and spends and hour talking with and posting with readers. I love ‘takeovers’. When Zane messaged me I was stunned. Here I am ready to shut things down and this new author offers his time to help make my blog better.

I was shaking I was so excited. His personal assistant, Gloria, walked me through, step by step and corrected my errors. I am grateful for her too. They make a great team.

We picked a date and time and waited. I continued to play on my blog but the number of members did not climb very much. If I remember correctly I had about 35 before Zane’s takeover and 76 on takeover day. I remember the 76 because it was almost double my members.

What nobody knows about that day, until now, is that I got ready 2 hours before the takeover. I set up my room with a cushy chair, pillows, and blankets. I added a folding table, covered it with a table-cloth, set up snacks, and drink and counted down the minutes until the takeover was to begin. I know it was silly but I did it. It was a big event for me.

I messaged Zane about 15 minutes before takeover time and prayed he did not forget. He answered right away and stayed on the private message with me while chatting easily with the readers. His encouragement was everything I needed to convince myself I could really do this. It was so much fun and my adrenaline was pumping through my body. I am not sure I was actually breathing the entire time.

At the conclusion of the takeover I burst into tears. I had been searching for a new path after leaving a job I loved. I needed something besides just being a stay at home mom. I especially needed to find a group of people I could relate to and connect with. People I had a something in common with. Romance books. It is hard to find friends who read, or at least admit to reading romance. Especially if it’s the really dirty books. I have since found them thanks to my blog. I would not have continued with my blog if Zane had not messaged me. I was done and ready to look for something else to fill a void.

Since I deciding to continue my blog I have gone head first into the pool of romance books. I am now a personal assistant to a fabulous Western Contemporary Romance author, Rhonda Lee Carver. I was a fan for years and now I get to be a part of her book world. It feels like reader fantasy camp when working for her. Blogging has taught me how to be the a better personal assistant. Working for Rhonda is amazing. More on that in another post because it is a story to good to keep to myself.

I also attended my first author signing in April 2018 and went to the humongous RT Convention in May 2018. I will write more about those in the upcoming months. Now I have moved on to include a web-based blog to my Facebook blog and why? Because Zane Michaelson stuck with me and gave me the chance to see what my potential was. I don’t think he knew what a difference he made that day. He is just a great guy.

I know I didn’t tell you much about Zane’s books. I added my review for the series below and I encourage you to purchase it because his story is inspiring and real. It is in the Erotica category but is so much more that the sex scenes. I was once told by another author that erotica books don’t have a story. I call B*lls**t on that. I Know What You’re Doing is a story that will draw all sorts of emotions out of you. Super hot and sexy. Anger and angst. Then sadness like I have never read before because this was Zane’s life. Not just a fictional story. Warning: Be ready with a box of tissues for the ugly cry.

Thanks Zane for sticking with me and supporting The Redhead. You never know who you may be helping or inspiring daily. On that day in December you helped me.

I Know What You’re Doing-The series by Zane Michaelson
I have never read a series that has attached itself to my heart as much as this one has.
This was so much more than I was expecting. I’ve read a lot of books over the years but I don’t think I’ve ever read one where I felt the authors emotions so deeply. Knowing this is based on the author’s real life makes each word stronger. It just seems to mean more than other erotica/romance books that I have read. I have even read this series with my husband. It allowed us to open up to each other and communicate while discussing how great this story is.
Since the series is real the details and descriptions are like looking through Zane’s eyes. It’s not just “maybe” this is how he thinks. This is what he was thinking and feeling.. Thank you for sharing your story. My heart hurts for everyone affected. At the same time I am reminded of unconditional love. It’s the kind of love that fights to survive during the good times and bad.
