Month: December 2020
I hope everyone is finding time to enjoy life and spending time with friends and family.
Generally, my emails are new releases, reviews, sales, or other publishing-related content, but today it’s about something much more important.
Today my post is about how the indie book community is full of some of the best people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Sure, many people I’ve never met in person, but the interactions I have with them are far beyond those of passing acquaintances.
Many have become friends, and some close enough to call family. Sure we don’t share the same DNA, but these are the people I’ve trusted and chosen to hold a piece of my heart.
These are the friends who would go to battle with me. Protect and support me through the difficult times. Celebrate with me when life treats me right. Cry alongside me when something tragic or heartbreaking rears it’s ugly head. I do my best to make sure they know I am here for them too.
A perfect example of this togetherness came when I received the news a fellow author announced her cancer battle was in full force.
Author Luna Lopez is one of those special people who have entered my life and is more than a friend. She’s part of my family from across the pond. I’d do anything to take away the days she has felt pain. Luna has assured me feeling pain is better than feeling nothing.
Another round of treatment will begin soon. My hope is this will do its job, allowing this feisty, beautiful woman to be with her children for many years to come. No mom should face the thought of leaving her family, yet I have no doubt those fears have filled Luna’s thoughts from the day she was first diagnosed. I’ve been asked what I want for Christmas and my answer has remained the same. The gift I want the most is for Luna to spend an unforgettable holiday with her kids and come out on the winning side of this battle for her life.
Our indie community has rallied around Luna and her family, offering emotional and financial support. This past October, we came together for an online Facebook auction. Donations from all corners of the world were provided to the Stronger Together fund. Our book community raised over $3100 with even more private contributions sent directly to Luna.
With the upcoming new treatments comes new expenses. This new procedure has taken Luna and her family away from their home for the holidays. They are together, and for that, I know they are grateful.
Fortunately, medical fees have been paid. However, #TEAMLUNA has plans to help ease some of the everyday financial burdens ahead, especially during Christmas. We want Luna to focus on healing and making memories with her children.
Keeping in mind Luna is a proud woman who has never asked for assistance, #TEAMLUNA has taken it upon themselves to run an online raffle. Signed paperback, custom items using Luna’s book covers, ebooks, and more have been donated for this special raffle. (See image below.)

About Luna Lopez
Late in 2019, after believing the odd ache and pain meant nothing more than old age creeping in, our friend, author Luna Lopez was given the devastating news none of us ever want to hear.
In the blink of an eye, cancer turned her world upside down.
Diagnosed with breast cancer she waded into battle with all the vigour of an Army general leading his troops to victory. She was determined to win the fight and after countless chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions, surgery followed, and for a time, she kicked cancers arse into submission.
Sadly, cancer had other ideas and returned, metastasizing in other parts of her body. Still, she is resolved to fight and to this day continues to do so if only for her five young children who spur her on.
Right now, the world is in a mess, and nothing is certain. But for Luna, the happiness of her children is paramount, and for them, her fight continues. Sadly, her beloved youngest son is unable to comprehend the possibility of mummy no longer being there and while this does not bear thinking about, his love for her reignites her desire to never give up.
Today, her battle is a rollercoaster, but she has waded through single parenthood, losing her job and surgeries with a smile clinging to the belief opportunities are waiting just around the corner for her.
As her friends, we want to believe this to be true, but we also know the strain she is under as a single mother of five.
Too proud to accept charity, let’s get together and show the world what the book community has in abundance, a great big heart.
#TEAMLUNA was organized to support Luna Lopez and help ease the many burdens she faces on a daily basis, to give her the option of spending quality time with her family, to do the things she has always wanted to do, just the little things most families take for granted, but for reasons beyond her control, she is unable to do right now.
Luna is a beautiful lady with real heart and soul
who deserves so much more than fate has given her.
A simple act, no matter how small, could make all the difference.
